Hope.
Finally, someone is talking about 'Hope'. A new federal political party, the Dominion Party of Canada, is now being formed. Our new party is all about Hope. It is an exciting opportunity that comes but once in a lifetime: Offering Hope that Canada's course in recent decades towards political polarization, fragmented loyalties, and a nation of many disconnected special interests can be redirected, coming together again - back onto a course of national unity and shared dreams and goals.
United By A National Dream
That National Dream should be based on the original and most familiar concept of Canada: First Nations + French + British, helping each other's health, happiness & prosperity. Immigrants from other lands are always welcome to join us and share our National Dream. And all Canadian citizens should be happy to have just a single Citizenship. After all, we are all playing for Team Canada...not for any other country.
The dominion of canada
We'd officially change the name of the country from just 'Canada' (thanks Pierre Trudeau!) back to the 'Dominion' of Canada. It was a special word crafted solely for us back in 1867 when we became a nation independent of Britain. It meant we had Dominion over the country from sea to sea to sea.
NEITHER RIGHT NOR CENTRE
75% of Canadian voters vote either Conservative or Liberal. And...their second choice is the other! Dominionists are ordinary Canadians who voted Liberal or Conservative...we are Blue Liberals & Red Conservatives. We are able to work with either Big Party in power to govern this great country in a sensible way that respects our shared past. We also are New Greens, concerned about Canada's land, water and air - seeking a sustainable future based on our natural resources. Plus we recognize the need to assist those in need to become self-sufficient, contributing citizens.
Our Canadian identity & values
We already have a Canadian Identity built around three founding nations. Immigrants should be encouraged how to be Canadian...through a Cultural Melting Pot, rather than a Joe Clark Cultural Mosaic. We would introduce a Charter of Canadian Values. Of course there are definite Values we all share and hold dear. We would introduce an Immigrant Settlement Scheme to direct new arrivals to where they are needed. Provinces will determine how many they can handle. Finally, we would ensure all citizens are treated equally.
Smarter immigration
We'd select immigrants first and foremost on fluency in one of our two official languages (so they can hit the ground running when they arrive here and integrate with Canadian Society). Immigrants would agree to be settled where they are needed in Canada until they become citizens.
responsible government
Then we would create a clear split between the three levels of government and Aboriginal government - without any overlaps - and introduce some Democratic Reform tools like Recall of misbehaving MPs, and Referendums on big questions.
Fix the Senate: With provincial/territorial senate nominee elections and equal seats per province, and give up to 50% of the remaining seats to the First Nations - to be elected, too - in the name of Reconciliation.
restore canada's reputation
Next, add in a dash of British Commonwealth & La Francophonie, a pinch of NATO & NORAD, add in some UN (we would lead the charge for UN reformation in the name of world peace). We propose a pullback on Globalization & on giant free trade deals, and in place of those, pursue bilateral trade deals with friendly countries who have things we need and we have things they need. Foreign aid would be better utilized in a focused way to help deserving nations develop.
rebuild our canada
Rebuild the Armed Forces, the Coast Guard, & the RCMP. Rebuild the nation's finances and usher in broad tax reform. Flat taxes would be the goal. No Estate Taxes. No Capital Gains Taxes. Lastly, add new provinces in our north and bring the British-owned Turks & Caicos Islands into Canada as our newest territory.
it's 'REALITY' time!
It's time Canadians had a political party that's interested in regular Canadians...not Special Interests! Your MPs are 'Living Rich' on your dime! Conservative, Liberal & NDP politicians just don't understand your daily suffering. MP pay, perks & pensions must be lowered to realistic levels so they can suffer along with you and I.
